about

Mana Raven is a new idea born from the mind of Daniele Mana and Elias Ravin. The two, stretching between Torino ( Italy ) and Los Angeles ( USA ? ) , could find the dark corner between power ambient, dark jazz and hidden spot of modern classical where academics don’t dare to explore.
‘Note on Reliquology’ sounds like it’s evolving and revolving around a musical solar system that is as old and the universe and yet it keeps surprising with unexpected evolution and sudden turns. Here the borders between reality and the weird have collapsed on each other, and with each listen through its zigzagging course, you’re rewarded by its strange twists and turns.
‘Note on Reliquology’ is an electronic album that sounds jazz and modern classical.
Mana Raven is where David Cronenberg’s organic textures meet the dramatic eyes of Monica Vitti in ‘Deserto Rosso’ .

Daniele and Elias never met in person, as the Atlantic Ocean kept them apart, they exchanged loops and melodies in a time where a virus had the western world locked down. They were continents apart in the middle of a pandemic but neither of them have ever had a closer collaboration .

Elias reached out to Daniele after he sat in for Loraine James on her show on NTS. Minimalist composer and woodwind specialist Jon Gibson had just died, and Daniele played a couple Gibson pieces alongside the likes of Cybotron and RZA...

Quoting Elias ‘’ everything about the mix including tracks of his own he included were very much up my alley. As it happened I'd recently released some long-form sax + loop pedal pieces meant to straddle the line between Minimalism and modal jazz... I was signed to a big dubstep/ bass label at the time and to put it lightly they weren't especially enthusiastic about my work in that vein, so I was excited to have found a potential fellow traveler.  I sent Daniele a couple tracks thinking he'd probably like them, would maybe put them in a mix some time.  I was surprised and thrilled when some time later he proposed a collaboration, by that point I'd dug into his work a bit, was completely knocked about by "Asa Nisi Masa".  I knew he had a knack for texture that's always escaped me as a producer, and his rhythms bounced around and ricocheted off in surprising directions where mine tended to chug along more well-trodden paths, so I figured the pairing would at least have that much going for it right off the bat. We knocked out a few tracks fairly quickly early on but it probably wasn't until he sent me his first draft of "Note on Reliquology" that I realised how special this collaboration would become.  I remember thinking "this might be the best music I've ever had any part in"... I've had other promising collaborations wither from neglect over the years, but I knew right then we'd have to see this one through. ‘’
